Celebrate World Breastfeeding Week!
When my daughter was about 3 weeks old, I found a brand new Facebook group specifically for evidence-based breastfeeding education and support. My initial goal was to breastfeeding my daughter for one year. Well, she was breech and I had to have an emergency c-section at 39 weeks, my milk came in late, I had to use a nipple shield, etc. etc. Things just seem to stack up against us. So finding this group was amazing. Luckily, I had an AMAZING support system from friends, family, and had close nurse friends that I could rely on if needed. I met the woman that was the Admin of the Facebook group, and to say the least, we are great friends now! When my daughter was just a little over one year old, we decided that we wanted to do a group photoshoot to celebrate World Breastfeeding Week (the first week in August). It was a hit and we've continued to organize it since.
This was our SIXTH YEAR of doing the photo shoot. Last year and this year were a little different due to Covid but it was still a huge success and I love doing this every year. Being able to come together as women and mothers that support each other is an amazing opportunity! Whether you have nursed your little for 2 days or 2+ years (or exclusively pumped, had to use a SNS or other methods, or had to supplement, etc.), your journey is unique and deserves to be celebrated! Congrats, mamas, and happy World Breastfeeding Week!
